It seems that up until lately, sewing had literally gone out of fashion. Today however, it has become big business and everybody wants to give it a try. Not a bad thing you’d think, but it leaves us with one obvious question: Just who’s going to teach us?
I have been sewing since childhood, taught by my mother who was taught by her mother and so on. As a fashion designer, then later as senior fashion lecturer, these skills were honed, polished and perfected to enable me to pass on my knowledge to students wanting to take the same path that I had chosen.
I have written Fashion Sewers Guide to Great Sewing Projects as a handy introduction, a handshake, a welcome to anybody wanting to learn the art of sewing.
Let me make one thing clear from the off – this is not a textbook, a how to manual or instruction booklet. It’s written for you, by an industry professional, intended to be a warm, polite and happy induction into a creative passion that will last a lifetime.
