A Traditional Witch’s Dedication Ritual

To use a planetary square, you must first draw out the appropriately sized grid—which is determined based on each planet’s associated magical number (3 × 3 for Saturn, 4 × 4 for Jupiter, 5 × 5 for Mars, 6 × 6 for the sun, 7 × 7 for Venus, 8 × 8 for mercury, and 9 × 9 for the moon).

The wind, based on which direction it is heralding from, is charged with corresponding magical virtues:

North Wind (Cool/Dry): Binding, banishing, and hexing.

East Wind (Warm/Wet): Clarity, inspiration, and wisdom.

South Wind (Warm/Dry): Protection, love, courage.

West Wind (Cool/Wet): Healing, cleansing, intuition.

Magic during the spring is focused on rebirth, cleansing, and planting the seeds of what we’d like to manifest in the coming year.

As symbols of life and death, bones (including teeth and claws) can be used as tools in rituals for communing with the ancestors, as well as in spells for healing and hexing.

Red: Protection, courage.

Orange: Success, justice.

Yellow: Knowledge, inspiration.

Green: Prosperity, luck.

Blue: Healing, peace.

Purple: Psychic abilities, spiritual wisdom.

Pink: Love, friendship.

White: Cleansing, blessing.

Black: Banishing, hexing.

Gray: Neutralization, grounding.

Brown: Home, family.

I recommend using henbane leaves and flowers for necromantic spells and rituals, or those that involve calling upon and communicating with the spirits of the dead.

Fruitful signs include Taurus, Cancer, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces. Barren signs include Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.
