I would start with the book of Massimo Pigliucci (actualy, I did) before reading this book. His books is easier to read and it explains the basic principles of Stoicism very well too.
But William Irvine's work is more comprehensive, no doubt, and I like it.
The only annoying thing is repeating the same thoughts several times, as is customary in American books. But we are Stoics, guys, these are just details :)
