Georges Danton had his moderating influence on the Jacobins. He was accused of venality and leniency to the enemies of the French Revolution, and consequently he was guillotined by the advocates of revolutionary terror.

For all that, Danton’s role in the making of the first French Republic is memorable and he has made his highly emphatic place in the French history.
