    Please note however that it is important not to try to be resourceful all the time. That goes against our human nature. Sometimes we’re not going to feel so good. What this is all about is being able to choose to feel how you want to feel, to react how you want to react when it is appropriate. To know that you can change your own state to suit the circumstances so that when you want to you can perform well.

    Have a collection, a repertoire of useful thoughts that you can apply any time you want in order to support and reinforce the good state you’ve achieved through looking at yourself physically.

    As a general rule, if you’re having a good day, make sure you have at least three extra treats because that will help keep your fuel tank topped up. If you’re having an alright day; six extra treats because you’re obviously using a little of your fuel up. If you’re having a not-so-good day then you’d better have nine extra treats and that will boost your energies and resourcefulness and perhaps allow you to improve the way in which the day is going. If you’re having one of those really awful days, 16 extra treats seems to be the rule. When you’ve had your 16 extra treat

    A treat, remember, is something that you can see or hear, feel, taste or smell that makes you feel good or smile just for an instant, and that will fill your fuel tank.

    It’s important to notice as well that this link between physical and mental is actually vital. We tend to have forgotten in our modern age that how we are physically and how we are mentally affect each other, that the mind and body are actually one system. This reminder is important because it allows us to recognise that if we can change our thinking, we often change our physical state, and if we can change our physical state, we will almost always change our way of thinking.

    But importantly, if you want to keep your fuel tank filled you need to start looking around and saying, ‘what is it that makes me smile or makes me feel good just for a moment that can come through any one of my five senses?’, and sometimes of course there is more than one.
