Five E’s of good teaching: “Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate,”551 to take advantage of the way the brain naturally considers new information. If the brain is engaged, it continues to explore. To build upon this learning moment, teachers should ask students to explain what they think is going on, then view the concept in more detail (elaborate), and finally they should evaluate their findings and their own thinking about the concept. Though simple, the Five E’s take advantage of the brain’s innate desire to search for meaning.
