Jojo Moyes

Jojo Moyes is a British novelist and journalist. Her full name is Pauline Sara Jo Moyes. She works in the genre of romantic fiction. Her books include the bestsellers Me Before You (2012), The Girl You Left Behind (2012), The One Plus One (2014), After You (2015), and Still Me (2018), and her short story collection Paris for One and Other Stories.

Jojo Moyes has twice won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award by the Romantic Novelists' Association. According to her official website, Moyes's novels have been translated into forty-six languages, and have sold over thirty-eight million copies worldwide.

Moyes studied at Royal Holloway, University of London. She won a bursary financed by The Independent newspaper to study journalism at City University and afterward worked for The Independent for 10 years. In 2002 she became a full-time novelist when her first book Sheltering Rain was published.

Moyes' second novel Foreign Fruit (2003) won the Romantic Novelists' Association (RNA) Romantic Novel of the Year in 2004. The real success came with Me Before You. The funny thing is Hodder & Stoughton, Moyes' publisher, did not take up the 2012 novel and Moyes sold it to Penguin.

Me Before You has now sold over fourteen million copies worldwide and was adapted into a major film starring Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke. The screenplay for the 2016 adaptation was written by Moyes herself.

In 2018, Moyes invested £120,000 in the Quick Reads Initiative, an adult literacy project. Her investment provided the program with three additional years of funding.

Jojo Moyes is married to journalist Charles Arthur and has three children. They currently live in Essex.

chopped all my hair off the following week. I cancelled my plane ticket. I didn’t go out with the girls from my old school again. Mum was too sunk in her own grief to notice, and Dad put any change in mood in our house, and my new habit of locking myself in my bedroom, down to ‘women’s problems’. I had worked out who I was, and it was someone very different from the giggling girl who got drunk with strangers. It was someone who wore nothing that could be construed as suggestive. Clothes that would not appeal to the kind of men who went to the Red Lion, anyway.

Life returned to normal. I took a job at the hairdresser’s, then The Buttered Bun and put it all behind me.
I must have walked past the castle five thousand times since that day.
But I have never been to the maze since.
