Edgar The Elephant is the second book by the author and teacher, Susan Spierling Smith. Edgar is an elephant who has been living in an unkempt rundown zoo with a very cruel zookeeper and uncaring, greedy, zoo owner. Edgar and all of the other animal residents are mistreated and underfed. Pete a parrot and his boy, Robby go to this zoo and are shocked to discover the condition of the animals and the zoo.
Pete comes up with a very unique plan to rescue the unfortunate creatures, when he discovers that Edgar is allergic to chocolate bars.
